The AMPEG SVT was the go-to amp for rockers of the 1960’s when they needed something to fill out a big auditorium. This reissue model of the SVT-CL retains all the classic vibes and tones of the original, but now you can actually get your hands on one! Cranking out 300 Watts at 2 or 4 ohms through a total of 11 tubes! This includes a pair of 12AX7s for the preamp, a couple of 12AU7s and a 12AX7 for the drivers, and six 6550s as the power tubes. In case you didn’t catch all that:
- 2 – 12AX7 tubes – preamp
- 2 - 12AU7 tubes AND 1 – 12AX7 tube – drivers
- 6 – 6550 – power tubes
That's a total of eleven tubes right there! Tone controls include a 3 band/ 5-position mid selector and ultralow boost and high boost. Some other top-notch features that come with the SVT Classic:
- Normal and Padded inputs
- Tube Protection Circuitry
- Auto-Fault Mode
- Fan Cooling (for long hours of trouble-free operation!)

classic bass tone Review by levi h.
Quality Features Value I have been using this head for sometime now and really dig the classic warm and full sound it delivers.
I had been using an SWR previously and this sound is not as 'heavy' in the lows and highs, it just has that round punchy vintage tone that cut thru better in my opinion
Plenty of power for venues of most any size, and I love the simplicity of the controls.
Its pretty heavy at 80 pounds but for what it is I can't complain, I've lugged heavier setups that just didn't deliver like the CL. (Posted on 4/11/12)
