Circumaural Studio Headphones!
The Beyerdynamic DT 880 Headphones are an outstanding choice for extended listening sessions, monitoring while recording drums or amplified instruments, or for general-purpose stereo listening! Their semi-open design and padded headband makes them extra-comfortable.
The DT 880 combines the strengths of open and closed headphones. Semi-open headphones solve the "I can't hear myself" problems often associated with recording drums or amplified instruments using "closed" headphones. Your players will hear an ideal combination of "live" sound plus monitor source from the DT 880, with minimal leakage.
The DT 880 reproduces an amazing 5Hz-35kHz sound spectrum, with clean, clear detail from the deepest bass to the highest highs. The highs are crystal-clear without being unpleasant, impressive even at low levels. The neutral balanced mids are analytical and strong, without being predominant. The DT 880's bass is voluminous without being too obtrusive. This is a headphone that will inspire you!

Value Quality Features
Based upon scouring the message boards and reading many many reviews I was leaning toward the K701 and the DT880. My friend owns a pair of K701 and I like the sound, but I figured I would get the Beyers instead so that we can swap cans and compare.
I did give them a listen as soon as I got them, but it was apparent that they needed some time to burn-in: bitey slightly overbearing treble and guitars just didn't sound right.
I let them burn in at medium-high volume over night and immediated heard an improvemnt. After +/- 50 hours its like they totally transformed.
Clear present highs and very accurate overall sound presentation. The bass is ceratinly not lacking, but it is revealing of the mix: engineer mixed for high bass levels thats what you hear and viceversa.
Very neutral and detailed sound that is great for closing your eyes and getting transported right into the studio or on stage.
I think you'd be hard pressed to to better than this quality of sound for under $300. (Posted on 5/16/2012)
