Generally I play fivers, but I had the opportunity to rejoin a local 50's group of which I was a part of some 35 years ago when I was playing a P-style bass.. Visuals are important, and although I showed them a B string could work with the genre, I was told no no no... Decided on this one based on other reviews, and got a good deal through here.. Out of the box, very impressed with build quality, and setup was pretty close. Tone control didn't work, but that was just a matter of taking out the control plate and wiggling some wiring. Tone-wise, pretty even across the fretboard. I did replace the pickup (Duncan quarter-pounder), and put a set of Kalium balanced tension hybrids on it. Stock pickup was IMO a bit thin on the lows, this fixed it.. Now I'm set for that 50's gig, and I don't think I'm compromising anything.. (Posted on 11/8/2015)

this is the only pine body bass i have ever seen, the transparent cream color is fantastic, and the striping in the wood is clearly visible. this type type of finish is usually only found on super expensive, high end instruments, but here you get it for around $400.00. The neck is very pretty also, with a nice gloss shine. The single pickup sounds warm and somewhat chimey, like on a stratocaster. i use this bass every weekend and everyone comments on how cool it looks and sounds. great work squier, for thinking outside the box! sincerely, dave (Posted on 7/13/2015)
