Sometimes An Acoustic Guitar Gives You More Than Enough Ammunition.
Guitars for Vets (G4V) was founded in 2007 by guitar instructor Patrick Nettesheim, a Milwaukee guitar instructor, and his student a Vietnam-era Marine, Dan Van Buskirk who felt the lasting effects of combat, in the form of post-traumatic-stress-disorder (PTSD). The men realized that the guitar and lessons were a catalyst for positive human interaction and joy where it had once been lost, and Guitars for Vets was born.
Guitars and lessons are provided at no cost to US Military Veterans who are referred by their health-care provider at The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers. Ten private lessons are shared on practice guitars donated by the local community. Upon completion, the Veteran/student is awarded a brand new acoustic guitar and accessories.
The Veterans continue this journey as long as they desire with ongoing group lessons and jam sessions. Playing guitar opens up windows of serenity as it is meditation in motion. Though not the cure for PTSD and other injuries, G4V makes the journey toward recovery easier.
G4V is implemented by hundreds of volunteers at more than 60 Chapters and 30 States Nationwide. Over 2,000 guitars and 20,000 lessons have been given to service men and women who suffer from trauma related to their military experience. It costs only $200.00 to enroll a Veteran in the G4V program. The vast demand for this curriculum is supported by donations of instruments and funds.
How ProAudioLand is helping:
We wanted to support the Guitars 4 Vets program knowing that along with our customers we could help a program that is enhancing the lives of these warriors suffering from mental, physical and emotional distress with the power of music. Having witnessed the positive power of music in our lives we knew this was a program we had to be a part of.
We are very excited to give back to these men and women with a new Fender acoustic guitar to Guitars 4 Vets for every ten guitars sold at ProAudioLand.
