Received the Lightning in perfect shape although there was a large dent/hole through one side of the box. Luckily no damage. The color had more yellow in it than tan. It looked alittle different from the picture on the website but after a day of looking at it, I actually like it better than the color I thought it would be. It has an old vibe going on. The black laquer inside really smells when you turn the amp on, I don't think it was quite dry yet but no big deal.

As far as sound, it was alittle brittle at first but as it warmed up (and as it breaks in) it was sounding killer. I own Dr Z's, Carrs, Bogners, Riveras, etc and this amp really brings something exceptional to the table. Most amps require you to tweek until you find the right EQ. This amp just offers something different but equally nice at each setting. I was worried that this would be like the Carr Hammerhead where you have to have it ear bleed loud to get the tone you want. The lightning has great tone all the way up and alot more headroom than I anticipated from the Youtube videos. These amps are alittle more than Dr Z's but about the same as Carr amps, I don't know why Matchless does not have a higher profile.
