The biggest obstacle musicians tend to face when it comes to an audition is the fear of rejection. No one wants to feel like they aren't good enough, but that shouldn't stop you from trying. The truth is that almost no one ever lands every single audition, and what separates those who eventually succeed is that they are persistent and keep trying no matter how many times they face rejection. With that said, there are definitely things you can do to better prepare and give you a better shot than simply going in blind.     There are various types of auditions that every musician out there should be aware of. The first one being the live audition, where you have to perform before an auditioner. Or maybe the auditioner might require you to send a recording of your audition. The final type of audition is where the company requests you to submit a video of your solo act or band. This form of audition differs from the above one in that you submit any of your recording other than that the company provides. Having a good knowledge of the various types of auditions, the only question that remains is, what should I do to get a successful audition? Here are some tips you should consider.

Understand What They Are Looking For

According to music experts, this is one of the crucial factors to consider. If you have the understanding of what your potential employer is searching for, then you will not waste your resources presenting the wrong package but rather will use these resource to ensure you maximize of you potential to get approved. For instance, if your employer is looking for a cover band that plays all types of music styles, then you will avoid submitting a DVD/CD of your local rock band.

Be Flexible

Secondly, assuming that you are aware of the job description and realize that you probably do not fit in the job description, it is high time that you become flexible to fit the exact description. It is quite obvious that the chances rejection is nearly 100% if your audition does not match the job description. By being flexible means that you make some changes to your lines and if the changes are not applicable you can start an entirely new project that perfectly matches the job description.

Be Honest About Your Skill Level

Being honest with your skill, in other words, means that as a musician, you should apply for a job that you are qualified for and there is no need of taking chances if you have got none of the skills listed in the job description. For instance, if a job description clearly states that strong sight reading skills are s requirement, then you should be honest and apply if you truly got the skills. Being honest with your skills not only will help you in succeeding in your audition but also save you from humiliation from other musicians and also from ruining your music career.

Put In The Time And Effort In Your Preparation

You might wonder why in most cases why well-articulated artist fails the auditions. Remember that passing an audition depends on the package that you supply to your auditioner. Most artists have already recorded demos that they quickly submit in the case of an audition opening and this increases their chances of being rejected. Therefore it is important that you modify your demo to meet the set specifications rather than sending it blinding and anticipating to get approved.

Playing Well Is More Important Than A Good Resume

Your well-decorated CV will not get you anywhere if you cannot play. This is where most people fail, thinking that a longer list of educational qualifications will get them the job. However, to be successful in your audition, you should back up your CV with a great performance.

Criticism Is Helpful

Failing on one audition should not mean the end of the road for you, but rather should motivate you to improve on areas of weaknesses noted by the jury. If the jury does note your weaknesses, you should go forth and ask questions.

Be Aware Of Non-Musical Qualities They Are Looking For

It is always good to remember that the ideal candidate for a job is not always the best musician. Another aspect that auditioners keenly take note of are; work ethic, honesty, communication skills, respect for others among other qualities. This means that regardless of your weaknesses, you can still make it if you are strong on these qualities.   All in all, landing an audition does not have to be a tough ordeal. It is always good to note that proper preparation, honesty, flexibility and, of course, a good understanding of the job description will highly contribute to a successful audition.
