Japan's Summer Sonic Festival is one of the world's
largest summer music festivals. Shown here in 2012.
Alright, it’s finally Friday but before we say goodbye to the work week, let’s check out some news from the rock world.
Good news for all of you Metallica fans from the land of the rising sun as the band has just announced that they will be making their way to Japan this summer to headline two dates of the Summer Sonic Festival.
This is what the band had to say:
The holidays are over and we're gearing up for a busy 2013 starting with some additions to the summer tour schedule.
This time it's not the usual European vacation... we're off to Japan for the Summer Sonic Festival!
Look for us as the headliners on Saturday, August 10 in Tokyo at the QVC Marine Field and on Sunday, August 11 in Osaka at Maishima Summer Sonic Site.
While eager fans anticipate the release of Alice In Chains’ upcoming new album the band has just released the official video for their new single, “Hallow,” to hold them over just a bit longer.
The video was filmed by director Roboshobo – who has worked with several prominent artists in the past such as Metallica, Mastodon and Green Day – and can be watched online at Vevo right here.
The new album is currently set for a spring release date and is the follow up to 2009’s Black Gives Way To Blue. Both records were produced by Nick Raskulinecz of Foo Fighters and Deftones fame.
And finally, in case you didn’t happen to catch Van Halen last year due to the series of cancelled show caused by guitarist Eddie’s health concerns, looks like 2013 might give you another shot because a new photo posted by David Lee Roth may be hinting that a tour announcement is on the way.
Roth shared an image of he and his trusty companion/sheepdog Russ, along with the caption “Start spreadin’ the…”
Things have been quiet in the Van Halen camp for some time, as the band was forced into a lengthy hiatus following Eddie’s surgery for a severe bout of Diverticulitis last year.
All in all, it would make sense since Van Halen is already currently scheduled to resume their “A Different Kind Of Truth” tour with three shows in Japan – the Tokyo Dome on June 21 and Osaka’s City Central Gymnasium on June 24 and 26.
I was able to catch the band last year when they performed at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and if anything can be said it’s that these guys have not regressed with age – save for David Lee Roth’s gymnastic talents.
Have a great weekend everyone!
