Check Out Seymour Duncan's Whole Lotta Humbuckers

Great news for guitar players who just have to have that warm, fat sound of a humbucker and even better news if you happen to be looking for  a set that can deliver some signature British rock tone helped crafted by the likes of Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton.

Once a limited-edition U.K. exclusive, Seymour Duncan has now made their Whole Lotta Humbuckers available for the entire world – and you’ll be glad to know that ProAudioLand has them in stock at the best prices around!

Back when Seymour Duncan was in his youth, he gained a lot of experience with tone and pickups while working at the Fender Soundhouse with artists such as Page, Beck and Clapton – among others – trying to find their defining sound. Suffice it to say that more than a few of the players and their signature sound went on to transform the world of rock!

Here’s what the man himself, Seymour Duncan, had to say about the new world wide launch of the Whole Lotta Humbucker:

When I'd work on one of those great old guitars for a client, I liked to rewind the pickups with 42-gauge plain-enamel wire. I'd also insert sand-cast Alnico magnets with a better-balanced magnetic field, which made the B and high E sound as powerful as the other strings. This modified pickup had more output and a higher frequency response.

The Whole Lotta Humbucker set is a replica of these special pickups with 8.78k DC resistance for the bridge pickup, 8.20k for the neck, custom winding pitch, and a calibrated sand-cast Alnico magnet. I have such great memories of living in London, so I'm thrilled to be producing this pickup once again.

The secret of these pickups starts with rough cast Alnico 5 magnets, plain enamel wire, and Seymour's unique wind pattern. The bridge is a hotter than vintage 8.78k DC resistance and the neck is similarly beefy at 8.20k.Tonally, the rough cast magnets add warmth and balanced note-to-note clarity so everything sounds bigger, even for a humbucker!

Duncan suggests that for those looking for “original” inspired sound, any Mahogany or warm tone wood body guitar with a Rosewood fingerboard is best. And in case you want a little flair on top of that signature tone, you can try the Whole Lotta Humbucker bridge with an Alnico 2 magnet neck pickup, like the Pearly Gates, for a distinct in-between position tone.

What is sonically unique about the Whole Lotta Humbucker is the way they push your amp and add a very slight natural compression and sustain to your playing. Hook these babies up to a Marshall and you’ve got some signature, fat rock tone known the entire rock world over!
