Video message from Green Day's site

Happy Tuesday music fans! Hope everyone out there had a great Labor Day weekend. Although most of us probably enjoyed the last few days chowing down on burgers and hotdogs or just generally having a good time, the same can’t be said for Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong.

This past Sunday, Green Day was forced to suddenly cancel their appearance at the I-Day Festival in Bologna, Italy after Armstrong was taken to the hospital due to an as of yet undisclosed illness.

The band was quick to apologize through their official website to the hundreds of disappointed fans who were anxiously awaiting the pop punk super stars.

“We apologize profusely, this is really unfortunate, but Billie got rushed to the hospital last night due to illness,” said bassist Mike Dirnt in a video. “The doctors don’t think it’s a good idea for him to play today. This sucks, we really, really were looking forward to playing in Bologna as the highlight of our tour. We apologize, but we love you guys and we’ll be back as soon as we can.”

“We’re beyond devastated, we’re as sad as you guys are,” added drummer Tre Cool. “Billie is extremely upset about it and we’ll see you very soon.”

The I-Day Festival gig was merely a quick stop along the band’s very busy summer touring schedule and more specifically a part of their two-week long trek through Japan and Europe. A bigger reason for their jam packed itinerary has to do with promotion for their upcoming triple release, “¡Uno!,” “¡Dos!,” and “¡Tré!,” which will each be separately released on September 25th, November 13th and January 15th, 2013, respectively.

There has been no word on the singer’s condition thus far, although seeing as how Green Day is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon, fans over in Italy can bet that their favorite pop punk band will most likely come back for a mulligan.
