Santana – Black Magic Woman

Black Magic Woman by Santana is a well-known Halloween song with a legendary bass line. In fact, the song has had two major versions. The first one was written by Peter Green for Fleetwood Mac. The second and the most popular came, of course, from Santana. This is the well-known classic form that significantly influenced Rock-N-Roll. The original Fleetwood Mac group was a Blues band. Its guitarist and composer Peter Green had been part previously of John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers. He was filling in at first for the absent Eric Clapton. Around the year 1969, the Fleetwood Mac band was composed of John McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Danny Kirwan, Jeremy Spencer, and Peter Green. The Fleetwood Mac version of Black Magic Woman is noteworthy, being planted deeply in the psychedelic era. Therefore, the song has an air of quasi-mysticism. Santana’s Black Magic Woman incorporates Gypsy Queen by Gabor Szabo, a neo-Hungarian Folk composition. The folk part is composed of a combination of modern jazz, central European rural music, and Latin elements.

Michael Jackson – Thriller

Michael Jackson's Thriller is one of the songs that made the artist one of the biggest stars in the word. The song was released on an album in 1982. Thriller is led by machine driven, relentless rhythms. The song features Jackson’s insistent vocal performance and an elastic bassline. The audio track for Thriller became already a classic horror even before it the music video was released. The song features slamming doors and wolf howls, gruesome lyrics, and sound effects of creepy footsteps. On the Hot 100, Thriller reached no. 4. However, its real legacy remains the 14-minute mini-movie.
