Singer Ian Watkins arrested on six
child sex abuse charges, denied bail
Shocking news this morning as Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins has been formally charged with conspiring with a woman to rape a one-year-old child along with other crimes, reports the BBC. He is currently being held without bail.
The 35-year-old Watkins appeared in court in Cardiff Bay today where it was revealed that he is facing six charges relating to sexual offenses against two women.
One of the six charges had to do with the aforementioned conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child under 13 while four relate to child pornography charges. The last charge was made for the alleged possession of “extreme animal porn.”
Strangely enough, a 24-year-old woman faces the same charges as Watkins while another 20-year-old woman faces all of the same charges as the other two with the exception of conspiracy to rape. Just how he is connected to these two women has yet to be disclosed.
On Tuesday, South Wales police named Watkins in a statement about the charges: "A Pontypridd man has been charged with sexual offences against children and is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates' Court today. The 35-year-old has been charged with conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a female under 13 and possession/distribution of indecent images of children. In order to assist their investigation, South Wales Police has named the man as Ian Watkins, a member of the rock group Lostprophets."
The rest of the band members released a statement today via their official website revealing that they are shocked at the allegations brought against their singer.
“Following charges made today against Ian Watkins, we find ourselves in a state of shock,” read the statement. “We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you. It is a difficult time for us and our families, and we want to thank our fans for their support as we seek answers. Signed Jamie, Lee, Luke, Mike and Stu.”
Watkins himself has denied all the charges.
