2003's Give Up remains the band's only record

Looks like Christmas came early for all of you Postal Service fans as news has broken that the emo-electro two-man band consisting of Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard and producer Jimmy Tamborello will once again reunite. And if the rumors are true, they will be heading to Indio, California for the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

According to the guys over at Billboard, Sub Pop – the once mighty indie label that released the band’s only album to date, 2003’s Give Up – is scheduled to release a deluxe edition of that very album to celebrate the record’s 10 year anniversary.

The album is Sub Pop’s second best-selling release of all time, being officially certified platinum late last year, behind only Nirvana’s 1989 debut, Bleach.

Seems like there has been a lot of talk that says the band is planning to embark on an extensive tour, with billboard claiming that it has confirmed through “three sources” that they will be performing at this year’s Coachella, set for two weekends in April.

Unfortunately, even if the Postal Service does hit the road later this year, they will probably be doing so with old material as there is no indication that the band will be churning out another record, something Gibbard himself has stated more than once.

“I think people like the idea of a second Postal Service record better than they would like the second Postal Service record,” Gibbard told Spinner last October. “It’s the desire for something one can’t have, the anticipation of possessing something is more fulfilling than actually having something.”

Deep words from the very emo Mr. Gibbard, exactly as we’d expect.

Although we can all pretty much come to the conclusion that there won’t be a second Postal Service album anytime soon – if ever – Gibbard himself has been keeping busy, recently fronting L.A Mariachi group Trio Ellas while performing on Conan. It’s a very different spin on Gibbard’s signature sound but enjoyable none the less. Even if you’re not a fan, you should definitely check it out here below.
