Jimmy Page played with old pal Roy Harper at London’s Royal Festival Hall London last weekend. Classic Rock magazine reports that Page played acoustic on Harper’s “The Same Old Rock,” the same track Page played on when the song was originally released on Harper’s Stormcock album in 1971 – with Page appearing then as S. Flavious Mercurious.

Harper said, ‘’I loved the guy more than words,’’ in tribute to fellow folk pioneer Bert Jansch who died recently and also remembered arranger David Bedford, who passed recently. “I seem to be having an emotional night,’’ he said.

Van Halen

Another week, another Van Halen story. Rumor has it that Van Halen will appear at the November 30 Grammy Nominations Concert at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theater to announce that they will perform at the actual Grammy awards in February. The buzz around town is that they will also use this opportunity to announce details of their pending album and tour.

During an announcement regarding the hour-long nominations concert, the Recording Academy said the show would feature “a special live announcement from a truly iconic group regarding their historic band reunion set to take place.” The organization later dropped either an extremely blatant hint or the greatest red herring in the history of rock music with the following tweet: “Who do u predict the reuniting band will be @ The Grammy Noms... Does this hint make u wanna ‘Jump’ and ‘Dance the Night Away?’”

Meanwhile, MelodicRock.com is reporting a few additional rumors: that the band filmed a video for the forthcoming album’s first single a few weeks ago in L.A., and that the album could include a cover tune, with David Lee Roth demoing several in New York City to send to the band back in L.A. to select from.

Radiohead

Four years after the U.S. portion of Radiohead's In Rainbows tour wrapped, the band will finally return to North America for a string of late dates supporting this year's The King of Limbs. The band confirmed the news in a press release, announcing the first 10 dates (interestingly all scheduled for odd-numbered calendar days), which kick off February 27 in Miami and wrap March 15 in Glendale, Arizona. So far, all the shows are booked to take place in sports arenas, and all go on sale via Ticketmaster on November 12 with the exception of the February 29 show in Tampa, which will go on sale one week later. Per the band's website fans will have earlier access to tickets via the band's W.A.S.T.E. ticketing system on November 9. Others Lives will be the opening act.

Thom Yorke and Co. played only two concerts in America this year — a pair of dates at New York City's Roseland Ballroom in September the week they were in town to perform on Saturday Night Live. In 2010, only Thom Yorke's Atoms for Peace made their way to the U.S. The band's last full U.S. tour included a headlining set a Lollapalooza and wrapped on August 28, 2008 in Santa Barbara.

There are obviously many holes in Radiohead's preliminary schedule — and many major markets have yet to be announced — but fans will be most vigilantly watching to see what happens with the band's itinerary in early April. This year's Coachella festival goes down over two weekends (April 13-15 and 20-22) and the band is a rumored headliner.

Feb. 27 - Miami, FL @ American Airlines Arena
Feb. 29 - Tampa, FL @ St. Pete Times Forum
March 1 - Atlanta, GA @ Philips Arena
March 3 - Houston, TX @ Toyota Center
March 5 - Dallas, TX @ American Airlines Center
March 7 - Austin, TX @ Frank Erwin Center
March 9 - St. Louis, MO @ Scottrade Center
March 11 - Kansas City, MO @ Sprint Center

Black Sabbath

Black Sabbath have dropped a monster bombshell today, posting a HUGE hint of a reunion announcement coming on 11th November 2011.

Today Black Sabbath's official website, www.blacksabbath.com, unveiled a huge splash page displaying the dates “11.11.11”. Could this signal THAT announcement Heavy Metal fans have been waiting oh so long for...the reunion of Black Sabbath's original line-up.

Speculation that the original Black Sabbath line-up is to reform has circulated for years, however, after Tony Iommi recently broke the news that the band have already had a rehearsal session together, we all started to wonder if the Black Sabbath reunion was actually going to happen!

Black Sabbath

Earlier this week Stereoboard reported that guitar legend Tony Iommi has a load of material ready and waiting for a new album. Further fuelling the rumors that a Black Sabbath reunion is imminent, Iommi told VH1 Radio Network he has “a lot of stuff” and “plenty of ideas”.

“I’m writing all the time. I’ve got a lot of stuff. I’ve got a studio at home. I just go in and play for a bit, put something down. My engineer is good; he’ll program up drums and whatever else. So I’ve got plenty of ideas for whatever thing I want to use them as.”

The possible comeback would involve the four original members of Sabbath, Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, playing together once again.

What’s more for Sabbath fans is that the reunion is shaping up so that if it happens, it could very well result in a headline slot at the prestigious Sonisphere or Download festivals in 2012 – but we’ll have to wait and see on that one too.

Metallica
Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield and Robert Trujillo from Metallica at the F1 Rocks India Metallica concert press conference on October 28th, 2011

The organizers of a planned Metallica concerts in India were arrested after the show was called off, leading fans of the band to destroy the stage and vandalize equipment. Metallica had been booked to play in Delhi on Friday, but they postponed the show after a security barrier in front of the stage collapsed.

The group issued a statement explaining that they were "notified that there was a serious question as to whether the show could proceed with regard to the safety of the concert audience, and our first and foremost concern is always for the safety of you, the fans." The promoters were unable to secure a permit for a concert on the following day.

The four executives of DNA Entertainment Network, the promoters of the gig, were arrested on fraud charges after they refused to refund ticket money for the event. Reports indicate that around 25,000 people had purchased tickets to see what would have been Metallica's first-ever concert in India.

A religious group known for picketing U.S. soldiers' funerals got a taste of its own medicine on Friday afternoon. The Foo Fighters stood atop a flatbed before their Kansas City show that night and sardonically treated the protesters from Westboro Baptist Church to a live performance, in a counter-protest of the Topeka, KS-based church's anti-gay views. (via NBC Action News)

Dressed in trucker costumes from their recent "Hot Buns" video, the band members hit back at the protesters with a message of tolerance and American pride. "Land of the free, home of the brave," frontman Dave Grohl declared at the end of the song, in an exaggerated drawl. "I don't care if you're black or white or purple or green, whether you're Pennsylvanian or Transylvanian, Lady Gaga or Lady Antebellum. It takes all kinds."

The Foo Fighters posted additional video of the counter-protest on their website, receiving more than 400,000 views over the weekend. The band kicked off a 27-date North American tour earlier last week in St. Paul, MN, in support of latest studio album Wasting Light. The "Hot Buns" song itself is a twangy country spoof with goofy lyrics about "hot man muffins," in the grand faux-trucker tradition of mid-1990s Blur B-side "Rednecks."

In addition to military funerals, the Westboro church has also picketed funerals of well-known figures, such as that of Elizabeth Edwards, the late wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards. Missouri and other states have passed laws trying to limit the church's protests, but have been repeatedly overruled by the Supreme Court on free-speech grounds.

John Mayer

John Mayer has been diagnosed with granuloma, a serious throat condition that has forced him to cancel all plans to sing in the near future. In a post on his blog, the guitarist explained that he has spent several months monitoring his condition, but has been advised by doctors to bow out of planned appearances at the iheartradio Music Festival in Las Vegas and an appearance with Tony Bennett in Los Angeles.

Mayer's condition has also set back work on his forthcoming album. "Born and Raised is complete as far as music recording, song selection, and in some cases mixing, but because of this condition I couldn’t finish singing on several of the tracks," he wrote on his blog. "This means the record will be released next year instead of this fall or winter."

Mayer is hopeful that this illness is only a temporary issue. "I’m not sure how long or short a period of time it will be," he wrote. "I’ve got the best doctors in the country looking after me and I will be singing and touring again as soon as I get the all-clear. Until then I’ll be spending time writing and composing more music and kicking an empty soup can around the West Village."

American dates are beginning to slowly come in for a Guns N' Roses tour this fall. So far, they are only slated to play Orlando, Miami and Kansas City -- but with a two-week gap between two of the dates, expect many more to come.

The group has toured extensively overseas in recent years, but they haven't done a proper U.S. tour since 2006. The band -- which features Axl Rose as its sole original member -- hasn't performed since a show in Dubai last December, but they launch a 10-date tour of South America and Mexico in early October.

After more than a decade of delay, Guns N' Roses released "Chinese Democracy in November of 2008." There's been much speculation that another record may one day come from material that didn't make the cut for that LP.

"We certainly did record a lot of stuff," says Guns N' Roses bassist Tommy Stinson. "We recorded three records worth of material over the course of that 10-year period, but I think that a lot of the unfinished bits were mostly lyrics and mixes and things like that." Might another record be in the works? "I'm not a liberty to talk about that," Stinson says. "I don't get into that aspect. That's Axl's business."

The band is eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year. Assuming they get in on their first ballot, the March 2012 ceremony would be an opportunity for the classic lineup to stand together on the same stage for the first time since drummer Steven Adler left in 1990. Rose has long maintained that any sort of reunion with the classic lineup is impossible -- but guitarist Izzy Stradlin did play with Axl on a series of dates in 2006. And last year in England, bassist Duff McKagan played on four songs at the 02 Arena.

It's clear, however, that Axl is unwilling to perform with Slash ever again. "In a nutshell, personally I consider him a cancer and better removed," Axl said in 2009. "The less anyone heard of him or his supporters the better."

Here are the upcoming USA dates for Guns N' Roses.

Oct. 28 - Orlando, FL - Amway Center
Oct. 29 - Miami, FL - American Airlines Arena
Nov. 12 - Kansas City, MO - Sprint Center

Neil Young

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Neil Young’s first Bridge School Benefit Concert, and the two-day event will be filled with some of music’s biggest names. On the bill: Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters, Tony Bennett, Eddie Vedder, Dave Matthews, Carlos Santana, Beck, Mumford and Sons and Diana Krall, according to Spinner.

This year’s Bridge School Benefit shows will take place October 22-23 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. Tickets go on sale on September 16. Proceeds will benefit the school, which helps children who are disabled and/or have communication difficulties.

The first Bridge School concert was held in 1986 and featured Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and Crosby, Stills and Nash.
