In an interview with Australia’s Perth Now, Albarn’s Gorillaz collaborator Jamie Hewlett spilled the beans about the album, which will be made available on the band’s website as the ultimate prize on Gorillaz Advent Calendar. “On Christmas Eve, a video for one of the new songs from the iPad album will be released,” Hewlett said. “Then, on Christmas Day fans get the whole album downloaded to their computer for free as a gift.”

Albarn previously said that the unnamed album was inspired by America, during Gorillaz recent North American tour. “It sounds like an English voice that has been put through a vocoder of America,” he told NME.

Strokes Finish Fourth Album

11/18/10 10:05 AM

The Strokes have finished recording their fourth album. The announcement came via frontman Julian Casablancas’ Twitter account: “Still not going to be out for a few months – mixing, etc, but JUST finally finished it yesterday actually!?”

The album, which has not yet been given a title, will be the New York rockers’ follow-up to First Impressions of Earth, released almost five years ago in January of 2006. Making the album hasn’t been the easiest process for the band. “There is disagreement as to whether the songs are ready,” Casablancas told Spin last year. “Some of the band think they are and others don’t. I’m somewhere in the middle.”

The band were able to come together and started recording in March of this year with Beck and White Stripes producer John Chicarelli. Casablancas said that fans should expect the new album to sound similar to the previous one, before admitting, “I may try to funk it up a little bit.”

Liam Gallagher and his new band, Beady Eye, release their first single as a free download today, November 10. Take a listen and download the song, titled “Bring the Light,” on the group’s website.

The single also will be available in 7” vinyl form for a limited time, with the track “Sons of the Stage” as the B-side. The four-piece group, which in addition to Gallagher includes former Oasis members Gem Archer and Andy Bell, along with ex-Oasis tour drummer Chris Sharrock, recorded their debut album this past summer. The yet-to-be-titled disc is scheduled for release in 2011.

Speaking earlier this year to London’s Sunday Times, Gallagher characterized Beady Eye’s sound as Beatles-esque, and went on to cite T. Rex and Jerry Lee Lewis as influences as well. In the same interview, Gallagher predicted the group would be “bigger [than Oasis].”

On Nov. 16, Legacy Recordings and Experience Hendrix will release "West Coast Seattle Boy - The Jimi Hendrix Anthology," featuring more than four hours of rare and previously unreleased Hendrix music on a five-disc (four CDs, one DVD) deluxe box set.

The huge, career-spanning set of 45 unreleased recordings traces Hendrix's journey from little-known R&B sideman to international rock star. It begins in 1964 and continues through 1970, the year of his death. Among the early songs are his R&B singles with the Isley Brothers, Little Richard, Don Covay, King Curtis and others.

Included are demos and alternate versions of songs from "Are You Experienced," "Axis: Bold As Love" and "Electric Ladyland." According to Legacy, the collection features Hendrix's never-before-heard version of Bob Dylan's "Tears Of Rage," solo acoustic recordings of Electric Ladyland favorites, such as "Long Hot Summer Night" and "1983 (A Merman I Shall Turn To Be)"; and never-released live performances, among them the Band Of Gypsys' Fillmore East concert on New Year's Eve 1969. There are also new Hendrix songs, "Hear My Freedom," "Hound Dog Blues," "Lonely Avenue" and others.

"West Coast Seattle Boy" includes "Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Child," a new 90-minute documentary directed by multiple Grammy Award winner Bob Smeaton. It's an autobiographical journey told in Hendrix's own words as read by Parliament-Funkadelic's Bootsy Collins, providing insight into the Hendrix legend.

The set includes photos from the Hendrix family archive of the guitarist's personal drawings, postcards home to his father, song drafts, sketches and lyrics.
