Stones To Play Coachella?

1/7/13 10:12 AM

Could this pic from the event's Facebook
suggest the Stones to play Coachella?

Hopefully everyone out there had a great weekend but its Monday so let’s check out some of the news you might have missed out on.

Looks like Slash is finally fed up with Scott Weiland’s wild “rantings” about rejoining Velvet Revolver – but apparently Weiland hasn’t gotten the message as the troubled band-less frontman has been publically talking about reuniting with his former VR crew.

In a recent interview slated to hit this month’s issue of Classic Rock magazine, the legendary guitarist says of his former bandmate: “None of us have a clue what he’s talking about… We’re not buying it.”

"I don't even want to give him this attention, to tell you the truth,” said Slash. "I think at this point Scott just got fired from STP and I think he's trying to pull off that trick of trying to get something else going on, and we're not buying it. The door's shut on this side and it's probably shut on that side too, so he's on h...

Ozzy Osbourne

Looks like Ozzy Osbourne might be getting the presidential treatment in his hometown of Birmingham if the record company boss who discovered Black Sabbath has anything to say about it.

Big Bear Music head Jim Simpson is pinning a way of getting the town’s airport named after the prince of darkness  after plans for a ‘Black Sabbath Day’ in Birmingham fell through, according to reports from the Birmingham Mail.

"I believe that there is a masterstroke that would instantly confound the cynics," said Simpson. "Just re-name our airport! How does The Ozzy Osbourne International Airport resonate? The message that would carry is instantly international, confident, powerful, unforgettable and says 'Hey World, we are proud of our own.’Ozzy might not always have been a paragon of virtue but he is a genuine flesh and blood Brummie.”

The idea of celebrating the work of Sabbath was backed by the city council earlier this year as part of a wider ‘Destination Birmingham’ program, which aimed...

Grohl's people say no reunion

Well, that ended quickly. For all of those Nirvana fans out there that would rather the band preserve its memory and legacy by not replacing the late Kurt Cobain and parading around on a faux ‘reunion’ tour, your prayers have been answered.

Unlike bassist Krist Novoselic – who recently said in an interview he would gladly tour as Nirvana under a different frontman such as Paul McCartney or even Van Halen’s David Lee Roth – Dave Grohl will have none of it.

A representative for the Foo Fighters frontman all but killed any speculation that the surviving members of the band of Nirvana plan to reunite and recruit a new frontman.

Rumors began gaining heavy traction when the surviving members of the band appeared on stage together for the first time in 20 years during the 12-12-12 Sandy Benefit concert in Madison Square Garden with Paul McCartney in Cobain’s slot.

The group performed a new track off of Grohl’s upcoming “Sound City” documentary which they performed ye...

The guys over at Saturday Night Live really put together one helluva show this past weekend as musical guest Paul McCartney was joined on stage once again by the remaining members of Nirvana – just in case you missed their 12-12-12 Sandy Benefit performance last Wednesday.

Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear joined the former Beatle to once again play their new song, “Cut Me Some Slack.

The new track is the first off of Grohl’s upcoming “Sound City” documentary soundtrack.

Does this mean we might see a bit more of this new Nirvana line-up? If Novoselic has anything to say about it – a lot more.

In an interview with The Daily Beast, the Nirvana bassist was asked if he would be open to a reunion tour with McCartney heading the band. His reply: “Absolutely, I would.”

But that doesn’t mean the recently back at work Novoselic is married to the idea of McCartney. When asked if he would tour with Van Halen’s “Diamond” David Lee Roth as frontman, the answer was much the same.

"I love David Lee...

Lenny Kravitz (left) to star as Marvin Gaye in new movie

We’re half way through the week and while I’m preparing my Black Friday camp out survival kit – complete with my limited edition director’s cut of Porky’s – let’s check out some news from the rock world, shall we?

Looks like Jewish rocker Lenny Kravitz has been booked to star as the late soul singer Marvin Gaye in a movie about the final years of the “What’s Going On” crooner’s life. This of course will be Kravitz first leading role outside of a music video although he did have a brief part in The Hunger Games earlier this year.

The directing duties will head over to Julien temple who is probably best known for her work on the Sex Pistols movie The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle.

But it’s not all high hopes as Gaye’s second wife, Janis Gaye, has mentioned that she feels “very skeptical” about the project, according to NME.

Feel like you can never have enough Hendrix in your life? Not a problem as a collection of twelve previously unrelea...

Great news for all of the Beach Boys fans out there, especially the ones that weren’t able to catch the Southern California natives (they actually grew up the next town over from us here at PAL) during their 50th anniversary tour earlier this year.

That’s right, you knew it was coming, and now its official; the guys over at Blastmusic have now confirmed a November 20th release date for “The Beach Boys: Live in Concert – 50th Anniversary Tour” DVD.

"To document this once-in-a-lifetime moment in music history as The Beach Boys embarked on their 50th year anniversary world tour was an experience I still have not come down from,” said Marc Bennett, Co-Director of The Beach Boys 50- Live in Concert. “This show is a solidification of their legacy and a tribute to creative endurance and artistic achievement that crosses all cultural and geographical boundaries.”

Footage for the DVD was taken during their 75-date tour and is set to feature 21 of their classic tunes that span throughout their ...

Slipknot Frontman Passes Out on Stage

Rock and roll can take a lot out of even the most hardened of performers and members of hard rock band Slipknot are no exception as frontman Corey Taylor reportedly passed out Tuesday night during their Dallas show as part of the Mayhem tour.

Although the incident, which was caught on video, shocked several worried fans in attendance, Taylor quelled their fears as he took to Twitter to reassure that he is in fact alright.

“Hello everyone,” posted Taylor. “I'm fine- just overheated in Dallas last night. Ready and waiting for Houston! Thank you to everyone for your concerns!" You can watch video of the incident here.

File Photo: Slash

In an interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan, Slash revealed his last words to Axl Rose before leaving Guns N’ Roses.

The legendary guitarist said it took him about a day to finally decide and reject Rose’s offer of a new contract with the band in 1996. He adds that at the time he did not feel as though he was leaving the band he co-founded but a new group with the same name.

“I was given a contract to join his new band,” said Slash. “It took about 24 hours before I decided: ‘I think this is the end of the line. And it wasn’t me leaving the band. It was me not continuing with the new band Axl had put together and was now at the helm of, the new Guns n’Roses.”

Unsurprisingly, Slash mentioned that he does not want to talk about the split for the rest of his life.

“It’s a lot of attention put on a lot of negative stuff,” he says. “It existed, and it might still exist – but dwelling on it… I left the band in 1996. We’re talking a pretty long time.”

He added that the actual moment wh...

Original Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward

Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward confirms he will not be taking part in the band’s recently announced reunion shows.

An original member of the early heavy metal group, Ward insisted that his decision was not affected by financial reasons but from the lack of any “signable deal” with his former bandmates.

Ward expressed his discerning feelings with Black Sabbath over the “minimal” part the group had intended for him to contribute during their headlining slot at the upcoming Download festival – having an unnamed drummer play most of the set.

“In April I’d been asked to participate ‘minimally’ in the Download festival,” said Ward. “I believe I’d been offered no more than three songs, while another drummer played the rest of the show with Black Sabbath. I was not willing to participate. I was not prepared to watch another drummer play a Sabbath set while I was to play only three songs.”

Ward also states that the band had reached out to him to play at the...

Guns 'N Roses frontman Axl Rose

In what probably comes as no surprise to anyone, Guns ‘N Roses frontman Axl Rose has officially declined his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in a lengthy letter sent out to the media. Although there are plenty of carefully chosen words Mr. Rose uses to convey respect and sincerity, he has yet to relinquish the role of “victim” in the matter, blaming not only the media, but former band members as well. Read on to see what Axl had to say in his open letter regarding the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

The entire statement reads as follows: When the nominations for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame were first announced I had mixed emotions but, in an effort to be positive, wanting to make the most of things for the fans and with their enthusiasm, I was honored, excited and hoped that somehow this would be a good thing. Of course I realized as things stood, if Guns N' Roses were to be inducted it'd be somewhat of a complicated or aw...

Guns 'N Roses frontman Axl Rose

At what may come as no surprise to fans with realistic expectations, G ‘N R frontman Axl Rose finally answered questions concerning a possible reunion show with the originals members.

As the former members prepare for their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction this coming week, all but two members- Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin (who doesn’t plan on attending the ceremony)- have expressed interest in reuniting for at least one more time in honor of their fans.

The hopes of the possibility were finally put to rest as the soon to be hall of fame singer was caught on video by TMZ reporters Friday night leaving the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood. When asked about his thoughts on a reunion tour, Axl gave a quick and direct “not in this lifetime.”

Fans in need of experiencing the magic that was the original lineup should get used to old music videos and 20+ year old performances, because if there’s one thing time has taught us, Axl doesn’t budge.

Former G 'N R drummer Steven Adler

Seems like every time a band is in the headlines…they just can’t keep out of them! In more news regarding soon to be hall of fame band Guns ‘N Roses, drummer Steven Adler has added fuel to the recent no G ‘N R reunion at the Rock Hall fire by giving his two cents regarding former bandmate Axl Rose.

In a recent interview with Loudwire, Adler said “If it was up to me, we would have been playing for the fans a long time ago,” pretty much keeping in line with what Slash said earlier in the week, stating that he’d “love to play” as well.

“Unfortunately, I have no say in that. I’m behind it 100 percent … 111 percent! Put it this way; if the five original GN’R guys don’t get up there and play, I’m going up there just on the drum set and playing a couple of songs from ‘Appetite for Destruction.’ It’s for the fans,” says Adler. “To me it’s just a rock ‘n’ roll band, but it’s a rock ‘n’ roll band that I’ve gotten so much love and respect from all over the world....
