West L.A. Music to Close its Doors

West L.A. Music's Santa Monica location

After serving the greater Los Angeles area for over forty years, the California based West L.A. Music has announced that it will be shutting down both of its locations in preparation for the company’s end. After opening up shop with their first sale back in 1967 – a Standel amplifier – the California staple quickly became a leader in providing a huge selection of instruments and pro audio equipment along with their friendly staff and excellent service. Although it might seem strange to the average reader for us to honor one of our competitors, we here at Pro Audio Land are saddened to see such an outstanding example of great service fall on hard times because the reality is, we are all in on this together and more connected than anyone could ever realize. Rather than simply ‘respect among thieves’, we appreciated their tireless involvement in not only bringing the residents of Southern California the latest and greatest equipment available, but their unfaltering desire to educate any musician who looking for a leg up through their several sponsorships, musician workshops and artist appearances.

More than just a music shop, they were essentially an integral part of the Los Angeles community, servicing recording studios, broadcast companies, film and video post production facilities, project studios, major artists, producers, composers, record companies, corporate, educational, religious and medical institutions, as well as military and government agencies. Not only did they sell, but they gave back as well, consistently donating signed instruments by Willie Nelson, Sugarland, Alan Jackson and several more artists towards several local and national charities. And although the harsh economic climate in the end got the best of them, their achievements were not left unrecognized. Over the years, West L.A. Music has been honored with several awards and recognitions such as New Times’ “Best Music Store” award for their 4th annual Guide to the Best in Los Angeles feature.

And with that, all of us here at Pro Audio Land wish the employees and management of West L.A. Music the very best and please know – Southern California will miss you.

What Southern Californians had to say....

"I know many musicians (many famous) that come here because of the knowledge and professionalism of the sales staff."

-Stacey B., Manhattan Beach, CA

"West LA music becomes a place of refuge for some, indulgence for others and sheer excitement for most. It's also common to see your favorite musician visiting or accepting a free gift.  Pretty cool!"

-Mia T., Santa Monica, CA

"The prices seem to be comprable to GC, but it always seems like the staff is willing to work with you a bit more than the sales staff from GC. I think West L.A. music is geared more towards the musician rather than just being a superstore or a spectacle like GC."

Puff S., Los Angeles, CA

"I felt compelled to write after the Jojo Mayer clinic last week. Absolutely amazing. And Kerry King from Slayer is coming up this week. Can't wait. Thanks West LA!"

Aaron D., Los Angeles
