Rio Grande started building pickups in 1993, when long-time guitar tech and vintage guitar dealer Bart Wittroc finally started up his own pickup shop. Bart had been attending vintage guitars shows since 1978 (the first vintage guitar show ever! Bart was there!) and had been winding pickups as a luthier and dealer since 1972. Bart is thrilled to have his own pickup shop after years of building pickups on his own, and has set out to make the highest quality pickups money can buy. Today Rio Grande Pickups makes top-notch replacement electric guitar pickups for all types of guitars, in a shop that is described as a “low tech/high tone” environment. Obviously, Rio Grande is all about that old-school tone!

Rio Grande has Strat and Tele replacement single coils like the popular Muy Grande and Vintage Tall Boy, and rails-type pickups like the Bladerunner and Railgunner.  Whether you’re playing Chicago or Texas Blues, or even West-Coast Jazz, Rio Grande has some vintage, American-made, hand-wound pickups to fit the bill. Ask Billy Gibbons about his tone and he’ll tell you about the Rio Grande Muy Grande he’s got in the bridge of his tele!
