Faithful recreation of the 1946 Gibson single-coil. Recommended for country, jazz, swing, blues, rockabilly, classic rock and heavy rock. For balanced and warm instruments. Works especially well with mahogany bodies and rosewood fingerboards. Please note the slightly taller, vintage correct, .745" height profile, compared to the SP90-2 and -3.
The short, wide bobbins account for higher output and more powerful mid-range than Strat or Tele single-coils. To be vintage correct, the SP90-1 is wound with plain enamel wire on the same Leesona winder that wound the 1950s versions. The tone is sweet and smooth. Comes with single-conductor hookup cable. Available for both neck and bridge positions in a balanced set. Often, the SP90-1 Vintage is used in the neck with an SP90-2 Hot or SP90-3 Custom in the bridge for tonal versatility.

It has more of the "stringy" raw tone and top I was looking for.
Perfect for blues ,roots and country and is very friendly with
pedals... which after all can give you that raging gain tone pretty much no matter what pup you use ..... but the clean tone on this pickup is just perfect ,very articulate and has the perfect blend of top and bottom!
the only issue i had was there were no mounting springs in the box...
Still...Happy camper here ! (Posted on 5/1/2015)
