Details

The 1176LN Classic Limiting Amplifier is a modern reproduction, yet every effort was made to remain faithful to UA founder Bill Putnam Sr.’s visionary design and intentions. The original UA 1176LN was a major breakthrough in limiter technology — the first true peak limiter with all transistor circuitry offering superior performance with a signature sound — and set the standard for all limiters to follow. The ultra-fast attack time and trademark sound have lured legendary artists and studio moguls alike to the 1176LN — Peter Frampton, Joe Satriani, Joe Chiccarelli, Vance Powell, and Mike Elizondo are just a few names on a list that’s continued to grow, for nearly 50 years.

This reissue of the classic and beloved 1176ln is amazing. Although different in its control usage than that of modern compressors, it is easy to use and dial in appropriately. It makes vocal tracks sound fantastic, especially soft vocal tracks which it really brings to life. It excels at virtually everything I've thrown at it and it just sounds the way it should!
I would recommend this to any serious recording studio or engineer as the best investment for a familiar sound that has been heard on countless tracks over the past 45 years. The price seems steep but this is one piece of equipment that can pay for itself in sound quality and longevity, without a doubt! (Posted on 7/19/2012)
