Watkins faces six charges inclu-
ding conspiring with a woman
to rape a one-year-old child.

Happy New Year, everyone! Let’s start off 2013 by checking out what’s been going on in the rock world while we were away.

We begin with an update to one of last year’s most bizarre news stories to come out of the music world in a good while – and this is in a day in age when celebrity sex tapes are the norm – involving a charge of “conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a one year old child,” among several others, for Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins along with two female accomplices.

For those of you who are not yet familiar with this story, Watkins was recently arrested and charged with conspiring with a woman to rape a one-year-old child along with five other charges involving at least one other minor according to reports from the BBC.

A 24-year-old woman faces the same charges as Watkins while a 20-year-old woman faces all the charges except conspiracy to rape.

Watkins appeared in Cardiff Crown Court through the help of a video link from Parc Prison in Bridgend, Wales on New Year’s Eve where he and his two female co-defendants have been ordered to remain in custody until March 11th to face the allegations which up to now they have all reportedly denied.

We originally heard about the story when South Wales police named Watkins in a statement about the charges: "A Pontypridd man has been charged with sexual offences against children and is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates' Court today.

"The 35-year-old has been charged with conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a female under 13 and possession/distribution of indecent images of children.

"In order to assist their investigation, South Wales Police has named the man as Ian Watkins, a member of the rock group Lostprophets."
